On December 16th, 1775, literary icon Jane Austen was born in Steventon, United Kingdom. She moved to Chawton in 1809 after her brother, who had inherited a fortune from an adoptive family, bought her a house near his.
My daughter and I visited Chawton and Winchester, where Jane wrote many of her works at the appropriate titled Jane Austen House.

Jane’s brother Edward was adopted when he was young by a wealthy cousin. The adoption helped provided the Austen family with a great deal of opportunities. Edward’s home is a short 10 minute walk from her house.

Jane Austen is buried in the Winchester Cathedral and a modes plaque is placed by where she was laid to rest.

Before Jane’s death, she stayed in this house with a friend. Winchester had a hospital where Jane was seeking treatment.
