One of the most important structures in Toledo, Spain is the Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes. The church was commissioned in 1477 by Queen Isabella I of Castile and King Ferdinand II. The building was meant to commemorate the Battle of Toro and offer an image of Spain’s dominance. It was also meant to be a Royal Mausoleum, but ultimately other places were chosen for royal burials. The church also received damages during the Napoleonic Wars. Now, the church is one of the most visited sites in Toledo for its historical and religious history.
